Boston Logan is the First U.S. Airport to Achieve Health Accreditation

On September 3, the Airport Council International (ACI) announced that Boston Logan International Airport is the first North American airport to be accredited under the Council’s Airport Health Accreditation program.

The program assists airports by assessing new health measures and procedures introduced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in accordance with a new set of recommendations by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Areas of assessment for accreditation include cleaning and disinfection, physical distancing (where feasible and practical), staff protection, physical layout, passenger communications and passenger facilities.

All passenger areas and processes are considered including terminal access, check-in areas, security screening, boarding gates, lounges, retail, food and beverages, gate equipment such as boarding bridges, escalators and elevators, border control areas and facilities (in collaboration with authorities), baggage claim area and arrivals exit.

“Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, North American airports have taken unprecedented steps to ensure the health and safety of passengers and airport workers,” said ACI-NA President and CEO Kevin M. Burke. “We are proud to recognize Boston Logan International Airport as the first U.S. and North American airport to achieve their Airport Health Accreditation. It further demonstrates the airport’s commitment to promoting health and safety as air travel begins to recover.”
