Last week, Condé Nast Traveler released its 33rd annual Readers' Choice Awards list ranking their audience’s favorite big and small cities in the U.S. in addition to the best hotels, resorts, and more. Boston ranked third among the best large cities in the U.S. after Washington, D.C. (#2) and Chicago (#1).
Here is what they had to say about our city:
For one of the oldest cities in the United States, Boston sure has aged with style. To get a quick refresher on our nation’s history, walk the Freedom Trail, a 2.5-mile route along a string of historic sites that takes you through the country’s founding. Other activities worth adding to your itinerary include slurping up oysters at Neptune, visiting the eclectic salon-style art display at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and catching a ball game at Fenway Park. Just be sure to learn the words to “Sweet Caroline” before you go.
The Readers’ Choice Awards are based on the responses of more than 715,000 readers submitted between April 1 and June 30, 2020. CNT notes that 2020 is an unusual year as readers made their picks at a time when almost no one was travelling. So, the destinations on the list are ones that had a lasting impact and created a meaningful connection. “[…] while it is always an honor to be on this list, in this strangest of years it is a special honor, indeed. Many readers have told us that when we emerge from this pandemic, they want to turn their attention to the classics, whether that means personal favorites or places they know have brought joy to others.”
