Unbeatable proximity to Europe, exceptional hospitality culture, iconic landmarks, and innovative spirit are only a few of the reasons why Boston is such an appealing meeting destination for international visitors. And in the past couple of years, the city’s popularity and international connectivity have been steadily increasing.
According to a recent Bisnow article, international service at Boston Logan International Airport has more than doubled since 2012 and is helping position Boston as one of the country’s biggest gateways to Europe. The city is expected to climb up the rank and become the third-largest gateway to Europe on the East Coast after New York and New Jersey, stealing the spot from Miami.
A major role in these developments played Delta Air Lines’ expansion at Logan Airport. In September, the airline officially assumed operations at all gates at Logan Airport’s Terminal A, becoming its sole operator for the first time since 2005. Since then, Delta has launched new service to Chicago O’Hare, Newark, and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and in 2020 there are plans for new and extended service to multiple European destinations including Paris, London, Lisbon, and more.

Delta’s competitors have also been busy at work in Boston:
• JetBlue is working on reaching 200 daily departures from the airport in the coming years with six additional gates by 2021;
• American Airlines is resuming a Boston-London flight in 2020;
• Austrian Airlines announced last week that it will add the first ever direct flight to Vienna, Austria, joining Lufhansa Group’s two other main hub airlines, SWISS and Lufthansa, at Logan
