Late last year, the Holiday Inn Express Boston announced plans for a five-story and sixty guestroom addition to its existing building located in the South Bay section of Dorchester.
The expansion project aims to provide additional economy lodging options in Boston and visually improve an important visibility corridor at the southern gateway to Boston. The hotel is located about 2.6 miles away from the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center and guests staying at the Holiday Inn Express Boston have a great benefit of a free shuttle service to BCEC.
As part of the expansion, Holiday Inn plans to add approximately 2,140 sq. ft. of meeting space, 2,360 sq. ft. of breakfast/lounge space and 19 new parking spaces for a total of 181. Other additions include a new architectural canopy, a small outside terrace accessible from the meeting space along Boston Street and a vestibule at the Boston Street hotel entrance.
The design of the new structure will be contemporary with a base clad in an elegant dark masonry material that will be carried over to the base of the existing structure to tie them together visually. The project will create new connections to the existing building on all levels and the floors of the new structure will be aligned with the floors of the existing structure to create a seamless expansion.
A complete renovation of the hotel is scheduled to take place upon conclusion of the expansion.
