Last year we highlighted the rapidly changing South Boston Waterfront District, home of the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC). Well, our neighborhood has continued to grow and there are so many new places to explore! From new restaurants in Fort Point and the brand new Seaport Square, to the sparkling new Reebok headquarters in the Innovation and Design Building further East, here are just a few of the latest openings (and some of what’s still to come!):

The Boston Planning and Development Agency approved this month an additional 7.6 million square feet of development to 12.5 acres in Seaport Square. This approval will bring an additional 700 housing units, a 1.5 acre community park, three civic spaces, three performing arts venues, 9,000 permanent jobs, over 100 shops/cafes/restaurants, and an investment of over $25 million in public infrastructure upgrades. The project responds to the need for performing arts facilities in Boston and will create two venues: the Seaport Performing Arts Center, with a flexible 500-seat venue and a 100-seat venue, and a 150-seat Fort Point Community Theater. The developer for Seaport Square is also actively seeking a grocery store for the neighborhood.
Athletic gear giant Reebok opened their new flagship store in Boston’s Innovation and Design Building last month, located on the ground level of its new Boston headquarters. At the 7,600-square-foot retail store, patrons can custom design their own t-shirts, get a pair of custom Reebok sneakers made right in front of them, or try out the new 30,000-square-foot Reebok headquarters gym next door.
