This is the fourth part in a multi-part series exploring all of the exciting projects under development in the backyard of the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. From hotels, restaurants, and retail stores, to fitness studios, apartments, and office buildings, there is something new opening up each week here in South Boston’s Waterfront District.

This week we explore Seaport Place, the neighborhood of the South Boston Waterfront District that includes the Seaport Hotel & World Trade Center, plus much more. Notably the neighborhood’s pioneer development, more than 25 companies and 5,000 workers are also located here.

The business centers of Seaport East and Seaport West opened in the early 2000s (the World Trade Center opened in 1986) and offer harbor views and provide workers and guests with direct access to a water taxi stop and its own Silver Line T Station (World Trade Center – shared with the BCEC), linking Seaport Place to the rest of Boston. The World Trade Center also serves as a port for seasonal ferries to Provincetown on Cape Cod via Bay State Cruise Company.

The Seaport Hotel is an AAA Four Diamond hotel, opened in 1998 and most recently renovated in 2014. With 428 rooms and suites, the hotel also offers over 180,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space. Named one of the “greenest” hotels in North America, Seaport Hotel is dedicated to sustainability and conservation – with amenities like complimentary bicycles in-season, one night complimentary valet parking for hybrid cars, and charging stations for electric cars. Fun fact: they are also home to over one million bees in seven hives on their rooftop, which they harvest honey from for use in their dining facilities!

Connected to the Seaport Hotel is the stately Seaport World Trade Center building, which includes Commonwealth Hall – a 118,800 sq. ft. exhibit space. Between the two buildings, there are more than 42 distinctive venue and function spaces, providing flexibility and a variety of styles for all sorts of events.

As is the trend in the Waterfront District, Seaport Place also plays host to a number of dining establishments – offering both fine dining and fast casual options for a client dinner or quick lunch:

Additionally, Rebel Restaurants, Inc./The Cronin Group, our food & beverage provider at The Lawn On D, owns and operates a number of popular dining establishments in the neighborhood, including:

  • Atlantic Beer Garden, restaurant and sports bar offering harbor views
  • Jerry Remy’s, sports bar named for the Red Sox National Legend, with classic pub grub and diverse drink selection
  • Temazcal, upscale Mexican and tequila bar
  • Whiskey Priest, spacious Irish pub with harbor views and a large whiskey selection
