To celebrate her achievement, we’ve asked Joclynne to answer a few questions for us, including her best tips for planners and favorite restaurant! Read on to learn more about this well-deserving member of the Signature Boston team:
What does your day-to-day look like as an Event Services Manager?
On non-event days, I am typically working on upcoming events, answering emails and phone calls, and entering specs into [our event management software]. On event days it can be a little hectic; you are walking the building and checking your rooms, working with the client to make any last minute changes, working with the other departments to make sure that everything is in place for your event, [all of this] on top of still managing your day-to-day tasks.
What has been your favorite event?
Mathworks. Every year they have a different theme for their sales kick-off party where they completely transform Hall C & D at the Hynes so it doesn’t even look like an exhibit hall. One year they even had a Ferris wheel that attendees could ride!
What has been your most memorable event experience? What is the most creative thing you’ve seen done at an event?
I think one of my most memorable experiences / creative thing I have seen was transforming Boylston hallway, on level 2 at the Hynes, into a train station for a major motion picture. And then to see the scene in the movies and it not look like a normal hallway was pretty cool!
What made you interested in getting into the events industry?
When I was in high school people would always ask what I wanted to do and I would say ‘I’d like to go to College for Hospitality Management’. As I got older and started planning social events for family and friends, I realized it was something I wanted to do as a career.
What is a big challenge you’ve faced at an event, and overcome successfully?
During one of my events we had a lot of late exhibitor arrivals right before the show opened, leaving the show floor not quite ready to open at its scheduled time. I worked with the General Service Contractor (GSC) and the client to assist in making the show floor ready to open and it opened two minutes later than its scheduled time!
What is your favorite food item that Levy serves?
Either the Asian Chicken Salad or Short Ribs and Risotto.
What are your top tips for planners bringing their events to Boston?
What’s your favorite Boston restaurant?
When I was little I LOVED Jimmy’s Harborside because of the toy trains that they had. As an adult I really enjoy Strega.
Meet the rest of the Signature Boston team and congratulations again, Joclynne!
