On April 3, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker announced that the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC) would be transformed into Boston Hope, a 1,000-bed field hospital for COVID-19 patients to serve as overflow for city hospitals during the coronavirus crisis.
The Boston Hope Medical Center is a collaboration between the state, the city, Partners HealthCare, and Boston Health Care for the Homeless.
The BCEC’s Engineering & Maintenance Team and workers from trade unions and other organizations, including Local 17 and Teamsters Local 25, were able to complete the massive project in just four days before the patients started arriving.
In addition to the 1000 beds, Boston Hope has six acute care suites, 52 nurse stations, 48 bathroom facilities, and a physical therapy suite. The BCEC’s air system has also been modified with added filtration and adjustments to the rooftop ventilation units.First Look. Boston Hope is opening today as our surge is expected.
