As 2016 comes to a close, we took a few minutes to reflect upon the year. Today we share with you ten of our favorite things from this year.
1. New SignatureBoston.com
In January we launched our revamped website, offering easier access to the information you need.
2. New hotels open next to the BCEC
In early 2016, the 180-room extended stay Element Hotel and 330-room Aloft Hotel opened on the South Boston Waterfront District’s D Street, directly across from The Lawn On D at the BCEC.
3. Eataly opens at the Prudential Center
The Boston location of the largest Italian marketplace in the world, led by celebrity chef Mario Batali, opened in November. We will feature the now-open Eataly in an upcoming blog post!
4. New dining options in the South Boston Waterfront District
This fall we started a series focused on the new neighborhoods surrounding the BCEC. The South Boston Waterfront District is booming with construction, and with this construction comes a great number of new dining (and fitness and retail and entertainment…) establishments in an area that once was lacking in amenities. From fast casual eateries to fine dining steakhouses, visitors to the BCEC have a large array of new restaurant options.
5. Record revenue for The Lawn On D
Highlights of the 2016 season included:
6. New Executive Director of the MCCA
Longtime hospitality executive, David M. Gibbons, was appointed Executive Director of the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority in December 2015 and began his role in January.
7. Opening of the Signature Pavilion at The Lawn On D
Beginning in 2016, The Lawn On D now offers two pavilions for exclusive use for client receptions, company outings, team building events, fitness programs, black-tie dinners, cocktail receptions, fundraisers, and more!
8. The American Society for Microbiology launches new ASM Microbe event in Boston
In June, ASM combined their two very successful annual meetings, the General Meeting and the Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (ICAAC), for the very first time.
9. The BCEC achieves LEED Silver certification
Earlier this year, the BCEC was certified LEED Silver by the U.S. Green Building Council. The BCEC is now one of the largest buildings in New England, and only amongst a handful of convention centers internationally, with the LEED certification.
10. And YOU!
We are thankful for our customers and the events you have brought to our facilities this year. Happy Holidays and best wishes for a successful 2017!
